“BE MY HUSBAND FOR ONE DAY!” SAID THE MILLIONAIRE WOMAN—BUT THE SINGLE FATHER MADE A REQUEST THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Emily Carter had planned the perfect wedding, or at least that’s what she kept telling herself.

The guest list was set, the venue was booked, and every detail down to the wedding cake had been chosen. But there was one thing Emily couldn’t control: her fiancée, Preston, had become increasingly distant. His behavior had grown erratic, and Emily began to suspect that he wasn’t just stressed—he was hiding something.

The day before the wedding, Emily found herself standing in front of the mirror in her bridal suite, staring at her reflection. She looked stunning in the designer dress, but something felt off. She couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that something was wrong, that she was making a mistake.

That was when she got the call.

Her assistant, Melissa, called to tell her that there had been an issue with the wedding contracts—something to do with a last-minute change Preston had made to the guest list. It seemed small, but Emily knew it wasn’t. Something was wrong, and she wasn’t sure how much longer she could ignore it.

In a moment of panic, she turned to her best friend and business partner, Daniel Cross. He had been her rock throughout her career, the one person she trusted above everyone else. And in a moment of weakness, Emily called him.

“I need your help,” she said urgently. “I need someone to stand in as my husband tomorrow, just for the ceremony. Can you do it?”

Daniel was silent on the other end for a moment before he answered, “Emily, you don’t need me to pretend to be your husband.”

“I do,” she insisted, her voice breaking. “I need you to keep up the act. Just for one day.”

Daniel had known Emily long enough to know when she wasn’t being honest with herself. He didn’t need to ask why. He knew the answer.

“I’ll do it,” he said. “But only if you promise me one thing.”

Emily laughed nervously. “What?”

“You promise me that you won’t marry someone who makes you feel like you’re walking on eggshells.”

Emily’s breath caught in her throat. She hadn’t realized how much she had been holding her breath until that moment.

“Okay,” she said softly. “I promise.”

The wedding day arrived.

As expected, Preston was nowhere to be found. He had disappeared that morning, leaving Emily with no explanation. But when the time came for her to walk down the aisle, Daniel stood by her side.

The guests looked on in confusion, but Emily didn’t care. She was marrying the man who had been there for her when no one else had. They made the vows. They kissed, but it wasn’t the romantic kiss she had dreamed of. It was a kiss of solidarity, a promise that they were both stronger than the circumstances that had led them here.

After the ceremony, Preston showed up, but it was too late. Emily had already made her decision.

“You made a choice,” she told him calmly. “And it wasn’t me.”

Preston’s face fell.

“Emily, please,” he begged. “I can explain. I was just stressed, but I love you.”

Emily shook her head. “You love what I can do for you, not who I am. I need someone who values me as I am.”

Daniel stepped forward, his voice firm. “She’s made her choice, Preston.”

With that, Emily turned away from her former fiancé and walked out of the ballroom with Daniel by her side. The press would follow. The rumors would spread. But for the first time in months, Emily felt like she had made the right choice.

She and Daniel started their new life together—not as a couple, but as the people who had always been there for
