JESUS RAISES LAZARUS: WHEN GOD SHOWS UP, DEATH DOESN’T HAVE THE FINAL WORD
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me will live, even though they die.'” — John 11:25
The story of Jesus raising Lazarus is one of the most powerful demonstrations of God’s glory in the Bible. It reminds us that no situation is beyond the reach of God’s power. What seems impossible to man is always possible with God.
When Jesus heard that Lazarus was sick, He did not rush immediately to Bethany. Instead, He waited. This teaches us that God’s timing is not always our timing. Delays from God are never denials. Sometimes He allows us to wait because He is preparing something greater than we can imagine.
By the time Jesus arrived, Lazarus had been dead for four days. To everyone around, the situation was completely hopeless. Humanly speaking, there was no solution left. Yet God specializes in situations that seem beyond repair.
Martha and Mary were grieving and confused. They believed Jesus could have healed their brother if He had come sooner. Many believers have experienced similar moments when God’s plan does not make sense. This story reminds us that even when we do not understand God’s ways, we can still trust His heart.
Jesus did not ignore their pain. The Bible records the shortest yet one of the most profound verses in Scripture: “Jesus wept.” Our Savior is not distant from our suffering. He sees every tear, hears every prayer, and understands every burden.
Even though Jesus knew He was about to raise Lazarus, He still shared in the sorrow of those who mourned. This reveals the deep compassion of Christ. He is a God who cares personally about the struggles of His people.
Standing before the tomb, Jesus commanded that the stone be removed. Sometimes God asks us to take a step of faith before we see the miracle. Obedience often opens the door for God’s power to be revealed.
The people around the tomb could only see death, but Jesus saw an opportunity for God’s glory. Faith sees beyond present circumstances and believes that God is working even when nothing appears to be changing.
Then Jesus prayed to the Father and called out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” The same voice that created the universe spoke life into a dead man. God’s Word still carries life-giving power today.
Immediately, Lazarus came out of the tomb. Death could not resist the authority of Jesus Christ. This miracle proved that Jesus is not only a teacher or prophet; He is the Son of God with power over life and death.
The raising of Lazarus points directly to the resurrection power of Jesus. Just as Lazarus was called from the grave, all who place their faith in Christ receive the promise of eternal life.
This miracle also teaches us that no dream is too dead, no heart too broken, no family too damaged, and no situation too far gone for God. His power can restore what people believe is lost forever.
When God speaks, hopelessness becomes hope, darkness becomes light, and death gives way to life. The God who raised Lazarus is the same God who works miracles today.
No matter what tomb you are facing—fear, sickness, disappointment, failure, grief, or uncertainty—remember that Jesus is still the Resurrection and the Life. Trust Him, stand in faith, and believe that His power is greater than your problem. What seems impossible today may become tomorrow’s testimony for the glory of God.
